Missing cockapoo 'closes part of M6' and evades police in month-long escape

A missing cockapoo has been giving his owners - and the police - the run-around for almost a month.

And heartbreakingly, every time they come close to catching the dog, named Buster, he manages to escape and head out on the run again.

But now his owners are becoming increasingly concerned about the six-year-old pooch, who reportedly forced part of the M6 to close last month, Birmingham Live reports .

Claire Nicholas has been out searching for her brother’s dog since June 19, when it’s thought he escaped his Birmingham home as his owner left to go out.

She also believes he has managed to escape the grips of the police who may have come close to catching him.

Speaking to TeamDogs about the turbulent time trying to bring him back home, Claire said: "The police had to close the M6 slip road on June 27 because he got onto the motorway but he then got away.

"We think Buster is lying low. We had a camera set up at one of the places where he was last seen but that didn't show us anything. He is a really nervous dog, if he sees anyone he will just run."

Over the last few weeks there have been numerous sightings of Buster near the M6 and the River Tame but nobody has managed to get him.

Claire says the whole ordeal is breaking her family's heart.

On June 27, Birmingham Live reported traffic officers were sent out to deal with a dog running loose near the M6 motorway.

The slip road at junction 5 for Castle Bromwich was closed for almost an hour as officers tried to bring the animal to safety.

Highways England tweeted that the road was "currently closed due to animals in the carriageway".

A witness tweeted saying they thought the dog looked like a black labradoodle and Claire believes this was Buster.

She added: "It's just heartbreaking and the whole family miss him so much and just want him home.

"He is such a timid little boy and to know he is out there scared and for so long, it really is heartbreaking."

TeamDogs contacted West Midlands Police but they did not provide comment at the time of publishing.
