Missing by Cathy MacPhail - review

Cathy MacPhail, Missing: Newly Rejacketed

Maxie is thirteen, her brother, Derek has gone missing. He's gone for awhile now and Maxie's life hasn't been the same since. Her parents ignore her and basically pretend she doesn't exist they're in their own little world of grieve. And then they have to go away for awhile, the police think they have found Derek and they need to go and confirm. The body is Derek's so now they know what happened to him that day he disappeared. Maxie hopes that, that means everything can get back to normal, no one has to wonder what happened to him anymore, they know. But things don't go back to normal and then Maxie gets a phone call, a phone call from someone saying they are Derek. But Derek's dead. Is this someone playing a trick? Could it really be Derek? Could her parents have been wrong?

Missing was a good book, but I think I'm a bit old for it now. I remember I started reading it on holiday when I was about ten and I stopped reading it because it scared me. And so I started reading it again because I remember it being good but just scary and I thought now I'm older I'll be able to handle it but it wasn't scary the second time. It has a good story line, and I think it's written quite well. You aren't sure if it's Derek or a prank until the end, and it wasn't predictable but I wasn't surprised by the end of it.

I think if you're ten it would be a really enjoyable book it's a good first mystery book to get you started out.

I think it had a good selection of personality's shared out between all the characters not one character had the same personality which was good because in this day and age there are lots of people that try their best to fit in and be the exact same as everyone else and I think the world needs to encourage individuality more and this book had loads of characters with completely different personalities and emotions and I liked that.

I have a feeling that I had tears in my eyes at one point, I can't remember what point it was but I think it got to me, and I like book that's can make me feel a strong emotion there should be more books like that.

If you're stuck for a mystery book to read then give this book a try, it might just be your cup of tea.

I'm going to rate it three stars, but only because it wasn't that enjoyable for me but I think that's my age, if I was younger it would probably get a higher rating.
