Missing 80-year-old Peter Penn found after he disappeared from his Shildon home

A missing 80-year-old with dementia who had not been seen for several hours has been found.

Police officers had been searching for Peter Penn and said they were becoming increasingly concerned for his welfare.

Peter, who has dementia, had not been seen since 1.30pm on Thursday when he left his home in Larch Avenue, Shildon.

A photo of Peter was released by the force in the hope that somebody would recognise him.

On Thursday evening, Durham Constabulary said that Peter had been found and was receiving help.

A spokesperson said: "Great news – Peter Penn has been found and is receiving the help he needs.

"Thank you to everyone who shared our appeal."
