A 48-hour search for a boy from Afghanistan who disappeared after leaving a south London address has drawn to a close after the 11-year-old was found "safe and well".
Mohammed Khan, who arrived in the UK from Afghanistan less than a month ago, went missing after leaving the Deptford address where he is staying, to play football in a nearby park at around 4pm on Tuesday.
When he did not return, the police were called and officers began a search of the area.
But police announced in a statement shortly after 4pm today that Mohammed had been located.
A tweet from the Metropolitan Police Service' Lewisham Borough in the South East Command Unit, said: "11-yr-old Mohammed Khan who was reported missing from #Deptford has been found safe and well".
The message went on to thank everyone for their retweets.
Initial concerns were amplified by the fact Mohammed spoke limited English and is in an “unfamiliar” country.
The boy’s first language was Pashto.
A high risk missing person investigation was launched and was ongoing for close to 48 hours.
Acting Detective Inspector Lara Pink, from the South East Missing Persons Unit, earlier said officers are growing “increasingly concerned” as we enter the second night since Mohammed went missing.
“He is in an unfamiliar country and doesn’t speak much English,” she said.
“He has only recently arrived in Deptford and won’t know his way around."
