Missguided returns and refund information for shoppers after falling into administration

Troubled fast-fashion brand Missguided has had a bit of an interesting week.

The online clothing retailer initially collapsed into administration on Monday, but was recently saved by Mike Ashley's Frasers Group in a multi-million pound deal.

But can you still shop with the online clothing brand and what does it all mean for those who may want to return items they have purchased online?

Missguided, which was founded in 2009, currently sells to more than a whopping 3 million customers in more than 180 countries around the world. Naturally, it is understandable why so many shoppers want to know about any orders, refunds and returns.

Luckily, an expert from the Martin Lewis owned MoneySavingExpert.com website has shed some light on all the questions some shoppers might have.

In the latest weekly Money Saving Expert newsletter, Sophie King wrote: "Online fashion retailer Missguided has fallen into administration but will still continue to trade until a complete sale of the business is completed. Here's what it means for your refund and return rights".

So, if you have any questions about whether you can still shop with Missguided and if your return rights have been affected, then we have all the information you need.

Can you still shop at Missguided?

The company was recently bought out of administration (SWNS)

Mike Ashley's Frasers Group, which owns Sports Direct and House of Fraser, has said that Missguided will continue to be operated by administrators over a transition period of about eight weeks.

After going into administration on Monday, May 30, Missguided said that nothing would change for shoppers and that they were still accepting orders.

The online retailer was still accepting orders as of Tuesday, May 31, and they confirmed that any outstanding online orders would be honoured.

MSE expert Sophie King said: " If, however, you're placing new orders you might want to consider doing so on card as this will give you additional rights if orders stop being honoured and you need to try and claim a refund.

"Under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, if you pay for something costing between £100 and £30,000 on a credit card, the card firm's equally liable if something goes wrong, so you may be able to claim your money back from it.

"Under chargeback – which isn't a legal requirement, just a customer service promise – your bank will try to get money back from the bank of the firm you bought from. (Be aware that even if you're paid the money, the firm can sometimes dispute it with the bank and the money may later be clawed back.)"

Can you return bought items for a refund?

One of the main questions on everyone's minds will be about returns and refunds. Usually, shoppers can send any items back in the post in a few easy steps online.

But has that changed since Monday?

According to Money Saving Expert, shoppers returns rights are not affected and the companies returns and refunds portal was still operating as normal.

Missguided have not currently released any information on whether or not a sale will actually go through at the moment, so it is advised that shoppers return any items as soon as possible.

What other options do shoppers have?

If Missguided stops trading and you have items due to be delivered or returned, then you have options but these depend on how you paid and how much your order cost:

  • If you paid on credit card and the order cost more than £100, you can submit a Section 75 claim. Here, your card provider is legally obliged to act if you don't get the goods or services you paid for.
  • If you paid on debit card, or on credit card and the order costs less than £100, submit a chargeback claim. This is where you can ask your bank to reverse a transaction in order to get your money back. You normally have 120 days from when you paid to submit a chargeback
