Miss Nigeria loses out at Miss World 2019 and her reaction is 'priceless'

It can be hard to hide your feelings when you discover whether you've been successful in achieving something you've worked hard towards.

As Miss World 2019 came to its finale, only Miss Jamaica Toni-Ann Singh, Miss Brazil Elis Coelho and Miss Nigeria Nyekachi Douglas were left in the running.

When the winner was announced, one jumped for joy, ran on the spot and screamed in her fellow contestants' faces.

For another, her face fell, her tear-filled eyes dropped to the floor and her hands covered her face.

But what makes the moment so special is that Miss Nigeria Nyekachi Douglas, the one who couldn't contain her excitement, had just discovered that she had lost out.

Her celebrations were in honour of Toni-Ann, the one who looked overwhelmed by it all after just being crowned Miss World 2019.

The emotional moment Nyekachi expresses her happiness as a fellow contestant comes out victorious, as she shouts encouragement in her face and dances as they hug, has inspired thousands.

One said: "Miss Nigeria’s reaction gave me goosebumps. A woman that celebrates another woman's success like that - just wow. Wadda Queen!"

Another wrote: "In 2020 when your friend starts a new business, podcast, therapy, anything that enhances their life. Be her Miss Nigeria."

A third commented: "It's so beautiful how Nigeria went all crazy as if it was her announced."

Newly crowned Miss World Toni-Ann appeared on Good Morning Britain at the weekend, where Piers Morgan said: "Right now, every winner of every beauty pageant in the world has been a black woman. What does that mean to you?"

As Susanna Reid listed them off as Miss USA, Miss Teen USA, Miss America, Miss Universe and now Miss World, Toni-Ann said: "Representation is a beautiful thing – I’m really happy to represent any race or culture.

"I hope any young woman is able to look at me and see herself in me - and know that she is capable of doing anything."
