Miss Newcastle finalists raise record breaking £30,000 to help local children with disabilities

The Miss Newcastle 2019 finalists have another reason to be proud of themselves as they have broken a fundraising record.

The contestants all pledged to raise as much money as they could for the Sunshine Fund in the lead up to the competition and have now reached an amazing total.

The girls raised over £30,000, exceeding their target by an incredible £10,000.

The money will go directly to the charity which helps to purchase specialist equipment for local children with disabilities.

Armed with their yellow buckets, the contestants have drawn on their own individual interests and networks to set up events from dog walks in Exhibition Park, an Easter Bonnet Parade at Hadrians School, pamper days at The Body Shop and charity fundraisers at local clubs.

As a group they have raised an astonishing amount collecting at Newcastle Racecourse and also doing a team bag-pack in ASDA at the Metrocentre.

The girls hail from all over the North East from Hamsterley to Whitley Bay.

Monet Grant, from Chester-le-Street, walked away with the crown following the final on June 14.

The 19-year-old had raised over £2,000.

Siobhan Sargeant, director of the Sunshine Fund, said: "We are completely and utterly overwhelmed following the Miss Newcastle final last week and do not have enough words to thank all involved for raising a staggering, record amount of £30,087.

"Every finalist was a winner in our eyes and we couldn't be prouder to watch how they championed the charity in our community.

"This year's ladies have truly gone above and beyond and the events they have organised to raise funds for us have blown us away.

"We also want to give special thanks to Rachelle, Vicky, Kyrie and Tyne Tees Models for all of their hard work throughout this year, they are all absolute superstars.
