Miss Manchester United? The punishments Maurizio Sarri could face after Chelsea boss's FA charge

Maurizio Sarri became the first Chelsea man to get sent off this season for the Blues during their 2-2 draw with Burnley on Monday night and now he has been charged by the FA.

The Blues boss was sent to the Stamford Bridge stands in the dying moments of the stalemate by Kevin Friend after leaving his technical area on several occasions throughout the encounter.

Gianfranco Zola claimed after the match that Sarri was only trying to help Friend by getting his players away, but the referee was fed up with the Italian moving far outside his designated area, so sent him to the stands.

Sarri was also upset during the match as he claimed some of the Burnley backroom staff called him a 's**t Italian', a claim that the FA are also looking in to.

Having been officially charged by the FA this morning, Sarri has until Friday at 6pm to respond to it otherwise he will have to face some form of punishment.

But with Manchester United at the weekend, could that mean that the Italian won't be on the sidelines for the game at Old Trafford?

This season, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino was given a two-game suspension after confronting Mike Dean after his side's game at Burnley.

However, it is massively unlikely that Sarri will face the same punishment, with Sarri not believed to have used any foul language towards the officials.

The best case scenario for the Blues boss is that, if any appeal is thrown out, he receives merely a fine and he can take his place in the dugout on Sunday.

However, depending on what was in the referee's report, Sarri could be given a match ban, which would come into effect this weekend ahead of their massive game.

An appeal might well delay the process, meaning that Sarri could be on the sidelines against United and Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League, but potentially suspended for Watford on May 5.
