Miss 'Mad Men'? Glendale home tour offers peek inside midcentury classics

Sept. 26--Recognizing the void left by the conclusion of "Mad Men," the non-profit Glendale Historical Society will host a tour of six midcentury modern homes in some of Glendale's most historic neighborhoods during the "Mad for Modern" home tour on Sunday .

The self-driven tour will include architect A. Quincy Jones' 1950 "Webber House," which is currently being restored; Edward Kirtlan's 1958 hillside "Barker House," which features views of downtown Los Angeles;, the "Conway House," a 1959 modernist classic designed by William Duquette; Karl Schwertdfeger's 1961 post-and-beam "Ruzicka House"; the striking two-story 1963 "Peterka House" designed by architect David Alexman; and the 1965 Verdugo Woodlands residence of Denver Markwith.

"Mad for Modern" runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Guests will drive themselves to the featured houses for docent-led tours of each home. Advance tickets are $30 for TGHS members and $40 for the general public. Tickets may be purchased online at www.GlendaleHistorical.org or at the Alex Theatre, 216 North Brand Boulevard, Glendale on the day of the tour. For further information call (818) 242-7447.
