The Miss Grand International pageant community is mourning the loss of Skarlent Rodriguez, Miss Grand Orlando 2025, who was killed in the recent earthquake in Venezuela.

The well-known Venezuelan model was found lifeless with her boyfriend, José Castro, after a days-long search that followed the twin quakes that shook the country on June 24. Nearly 2,000 people are reported to have died and thousands are still unaccounted for.

The couple were trapped in the rubble of the building where their apartment was located, in Catia La Mar in La Guaira state, according to local media reports.

Relatives confirmed the discovery of both bodies on Monday night.

“Sadly both were found dead … side by side, together until the end,” their loved ones wrote on a GoFundMe campaign page established to help ease the financial burden resulting from the tragedy.

After her death was confirmed, the Miss Grand Florida organisation issued a statement expressing its condolences and paying tribute to the former titleholder.

The organisation described Rodriguez as a woman who embodied grace, kindness, strength and positivity, saying she represented the values of the Miss Grand Florida family through her confidence, compassion and ability to inspire others. Thailand-based Miss Grand International, the pageant organiser founded by Thai TV host Nawat Itsaragrisil, also posted a message of condolence.

“With profound sorrow, we mourn the tragic passing of Skarlent Rodríguez, Miss Grand Orlando 2025, following the devastating earthquake that struck Venezuela,” the message said.

“We extend our deepest condolences to her family, loved ones, and all those affected by this heartbreaking disaster. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Venezuela during this difficult time. May they find strength, comfort, and unity as they navigate the days ahead.”
