ED Miliband has been called out for a “misleading” social media post which claimed Labour were “delivering” a new wind farm in Scotland.
The Energy Secretary tweeted about the approval of the Berwick Bank wind farm on Thursday, which is set to be one of the world’s largest.
Responsibility for the project is devolved to Holyrood and it was signed off by Scottish ministers, who must also approve a seabird compensation plan before the development can move ahead.
Miliband tweeted about the news with a graphic stamped with the logo of the UK Government’s Department of Energy Security and Net Zero. It said: "The UK has consented enough offshore wind to meet our 2030 clean power target."
The clean power by 2030 target is a Labour Party ambition.
The approval of Berwick Bank offshore wind farm today is a major step towards our offshore wind targets and delivering clean power by 2030. Clean homegrown power is the route to energy security, good jobs and lower bills. That’s what we’re delivering. pic.twitter.com/x1DFsTAMlg

Glasgow SNP councillor Mhairi Hunter shared the post on Twitter/X, adding: “Misleading. The UK gov did not consent this.
"It's devolved.”
[[SNP]] councillor and 2026 [[Holyrood]] candidate Lloyd Melville added: "Err, it was approved by the Scottish Government, Ed."
The UK Government was approached for comment.
