Sabrina Washington has revealed how she turned to alcohol after Mis-Teeq split, which developed into a drinking problem.
The London born singer, 40, sings about her battle with booze in her new comeback single Gone.
She tells of "taking to the bottle" and "demons in my head" in the emotional lyrics.
Sabrina sings: "The story of a pop babe, that took to the bottle when she left the stage.
"I prayed to god to forgive me, the demons in my head tryna kill me.
"Don't come asking me where I've been, I was home with my bottle, my only friend."
Sabrina also hitns at being betrayed by "so-called friends" who wanted to see her fail.
She explains that she gave up drinking and wrote the song so she wouldn't have to explain herself again.
She sings: "So I turned my back on my past, I put the drink down, picked up a pen and a pad. Wrote it in a song, so you wouldn't have to ask."
In the song's video she sits alone drinking and even watches herself downing bottles of wine.
She also appears to burn a magazine with a story about herself.
Sabrina said: "After spending years touring the world, recording and performing, I needed to take some time out of the spotlight. I was very young and needed some downtime from all the madness.
"It was only then I could refocus on what is important to me: music. I've spent a lot of time in the studio writing and recording new music, and now I have many new tracks ready to go.
"For me it's not about chasing celebrity or chart positions, it's all about putting out music that I love and is true to myself.
"I wanted to put it out so people know it's okay not to be okay."
