Meghan Markle and Prince Harry shouldn't have done Oprah interview, say Mirror readers

Mirror readers have given their verdict on whether Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were right to do an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Most readers who filled the survey did not agree with Meghan's decision to do the tell-all interview.

Of the 21,862 responses collected on this question, an overwhelming 85 per cent said they did not think she made the right choice.

And from 21,810 responses to whether she should share details of her time in the royal family, 80 per cent surveyed thought she should keep details private.

But in a clip released ahead of the interview, which airs tonight in the US and tomorrow night in the UK, Meghan said being able to speak for herself was liberating.

Meghan said she is finally 'ready to talk' in the extended trailer for her hotly-anticipated interview.

The 39-year-old mother said she finally has the 'right and privilege' to speak out now.

In a clip released, Winfrey reveals she first approached Meghan for an interview ahead of her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry.

"I remember that conservation very well. I wasn't even allowed to have that conversation with you personally right?," recalls Meghan. "There had to be people from the comms sitting there."

"You turned me down nicely and said perhaps there will be a right time. So what is right about this time?" Oprah asks.

"So many things that were on the other side of a lot of life experiences that have happened," Meghan said.

"And also that we have the ability to make our own choices in a way that I couldn't have said yes to you then.

"That wasn't my choice to make," she added.

Meghan then admitted she found it tough to go from living an independent life to being in the 'construct' of her husband's family which she said was 'very different to how people would imagine'.

After making the decision to stand down from as a senior Royal Family member, Meghan said she found it 'really liberating' to be able to have the 'right and the privilege' to say 'yes' to her friend Oprah at last.

"I'm ready to talk. To be able to just make a choice on your own. And to be able to speak for yourself," she said.
