Mirko Maric on Rangers’ radar as Mark Allen has £3m Osijek striker scouted

Rangers are on the trail of £3million-rated Croatia striker Mirko Maric.

The Ibrox club have scouted the on-form NK Osijek striker regularly in recent months.

Maric – who still has three years left on his current deal – has 16 goals and is the domestic top scorer in his homeland.

That has brought him to the attention of Ibrox director of football Mark Allen.

Rangers are looking to add to their frontline options and to take some of the burden off top scorer Alfredo Morelos.

Jermain Defoe is also there but Kyle Lafferty has fallen out of favour and manager Steven Gerrard wants another striker, while there is also the possibility that Morelos could be sold.

The 23-year-old, who has two caps, was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina and played for their youth sides but switched allegiances at Under-21 level.

Maric came through the ranks at Siroki Brijeg before he moved to Dinamo Zagreb but he never real got his chance there and was sent back to Siroki on loan and then to Lokomotiva.

The Croatian market is also one that Rangers have tapped into to sign Borna Barasic, Nikola Katic and Eros Grezda, who are all former team mates of Maric.

The players Rangers could target if they follow Alfredo Morelos blueprint

Hungarian side Videoton bought the forward before Osijek paid around £500,000 to land him two years ago.

Interestingly, he is connected to the same agency as Grezda and Rangers have built up a bit of a relationship with Argentum Sport.

Rangers have already started to do their business early.

They have signed Jordan Jones on a pre-contract from Kilmarnock, are about to announce a similar deal with Motherwell’s Jake Hastie and are also set to seal a deal to land Greg Stewart on loan from Birmingham City.
