Miriam Margolyes says 'f*** you' to new Chancellor Jeremy Hunt live on Radio 4

Radio 4 listeners had quite the wake-up this morning after actress Miriam Margolyes launched into an expletive outburst about the new Chancellor.

Ms Margoyles, star of Harry Potter films, Little Shop of Horrors, and many more, was appearing on the flagship radio breakfast show ‘Today’ this morning (October 15) to talk about the passing of Robbie Coltrane, who also acted in the Harry Potter franchise. She was on air at roughly 8:30am.

She was to be followed by a feature on the new Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt. Mr Hunt was appointed to the post yesterday, after PM Liz Truss sacked Kwasi Kwarteng from the role after just 38 days.

However, Ms Margolyes did not just limit her comments to the beloved late actor she was appearing on the show to speak about. Her comments about Mr Hunt have gone viral.

“I never thought I’d be sitting in this seat…” Miriam began, having just summed up her feelings on Robbie Coltrane — at the same moment that Jeremy Hunt walked into the studio.

She continued: “The thing is, when I saw him there, I just said ‘you’ve got a hell of a job, the best of luck!’ What I really wanted to say was f*** you! B*****d! But you can’t say that.”

Quickly, presenter Justin Webb apologised for the outburst from the 81-year-old Margolyes. However, a clip of the incident was taken by Guardian media editor Jim Waterson, who shared it on Twitter.

After less than an hour, the tweet had earned more than 3,000 likes and almost 1,000 retweets. Many users reacting to the clip said Ms Margolyes was ‘the mouthpiece for the nation’.

Rhian Langham added: “Oh this has made me laugh so much this morning!! Happy Saturday.”

And user KeloidKrown said: “At this point, shows invite Miriam Margolyes on for these "faux pas". But it never gets old. This is probably one of her finest, though. Brava. I want her to get on C word out before she's deemed persona non grata by broadcasters everywhere.”
