Harry Potter star Miriam Margolyes is copping some light heat on social media after fans discovered the eye-watering price of rent for her property in Sydney.
News of the rental was shared by a Facebook account linked to Margolyes earlier this week, advertising the availability of the actress’ two-bedroom home located just a stone’s throw away from Bondi Beach.

“Rush to rent this gorgeous Bondi property in Cox Avenue,” the Facebook post read.
In the listing, Margolyes’ property is described as a “beautifully presented semi-detached home” with “timeless character and elegant period features”, with the accompanying pictures shitting all over Harry’s basement dwelling in The Philosopher’s Stone.
Since it’s Bondi, and since we’re in the midst of a rental crisis far spookier than any of Voldermort’s spells, it’s perhaps unsurprising that the rent for Margolyes’ property is listed for a cool $1,300 per week.
Even though the only thing more predictable in Bondi than the sight of an acai bowl is the sight of exorbitant rent, folks still flocked to Margolyes’ comments to express their surprise at the asking price.

“I would expect a house elf [to] be included for that price,” one user (who is presumably still grieving Dobby) wrote, with another questioning whether Margolyes would “take some Pez and a smile” in lieu of actual rent.
“There goes 93.75% of my salary,” a third user quipped.
According to realestate.com.au, Margolyes’ asking price is just above the average for the area, with the median rent for a two-bedroom home in Bondi being $1,245 per week.
I’m sure legions of Potterhead renters would be happy for Margolyes to pocket the extra $55. That is, if they were even able to afford it in the first place.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Margolyes first bought the Bondi property back in 1984 for just $93,000 (*cries in current housing crisis*).
She shares an additional Aussie home in the NSW Southern Highlands with her partner, Heather Sutherland.
All this talk has me officially believing that it takes some Potter-level magic to actually secure an affordable home in Sydney.
With that being said — Miriam Margolyes, what’s the spell to instantly become rich?
