Miranda Hart raises prices on celeb video site to support charities during lockdown

Comedian Miranda Hart has increased her fees on a celebrity video site since the UK went into lockdown to lend a helping hand to chronic illness charities.

Miranda hiked her prices from £80 to £166 for a personalised message to a fan on website Cameo in support of charities ASTRiiD and CISFA UK.

She put her name down at the beginning of March, but since the coronavirus has kept the nation housebound, prices have undergone the rise.

The star said: "I increased the price because I am donating revenue to two charities that support chronic illness (ASTRiiD and CISFA UK) during lockdown as it is a great time to raise awareness for those who experience 'lockdown' as part of their daily lives and because there are vulnerable people during pandemic.

"With Cameo you can vary your prices at different times to suit how you want to use it so I can see for a week whether raising the price means I make more money to help others, or whether it's best to reduce it."

Miranda, best known for her BBC sitcom Miranda, told fans when she signed up: "Hello. I'm thrilled to be on here.

"I can't wait to receive your requests. I love to make people smile or laugh if I can, help to spread joy and positivity.

"Happy to help with any struggles people might be going through. This is going to be such fun."

The site boasts some of showbiz's biggest names - including Caitlyn Jenner, who charges a whopping $2,500 for a video.

Rapper Snoop Dogg, Monty Python legend John Cleese and Inbetweeners star James Buckley are among the other big names pumping out clips for fans.

Miranda aired its first series back in 2009, and Miranda told in 2015 that she hadn't taken the possibility of a return off the table.

She's also cracked Hollywood, recently starring in a new version of the Jane Austen classic Emma, as well as sharing the screen with 50 Cent during most of her scenes in comedy, Spy.
