Miraculous moment driver escapes uninjured after smashing into M61 barrier in 100mph police chase

Footage has captured the moment a driver lost control in a high-speed police chase on the M61.

The dramatic pursuit happened in Bolton just after 7pm on Thursday (February 11). Miraculously, no one was injured in the incident.

It came after GMP and Lancashire police officers teamed up to catch a suspected car thief.

At one point, the pursuit came close to reaching speeds of 100mph.

Police were travelling at 88mph when the driver they were chasing eventually lost control.

The man, from Blackpool, was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving and other alleged offences.

In a tweet, GMP Traffic said: “On the 11th Feb at 1915hr GMP Tpac patrols assisted Lancs Police with a stolen vehicle being pursued on the M61.

“Male driver was arrested Theft of MV, Dang Drive, Sec5aRTA, No docs.

“No party was injured during the dramatic conclusion.”
