Merseyside police have said it is a 'miracle' that a 15-year-old girl survived a shooting in Liverpool.

She had a gun shot wound to her upper body, when she was initially took to hospital her condition was described as 'critical.'

Her condition is now described as 'serious but stable' after suffering 'devastating' injuries.

The family is currently being supported by police family liaison officers through what Mark Kameen said is a 'incredibly difficult time.'

During the press conference police also urged anybody to come forward with any information they have that can identify those responsible for the 'cowardly' attack.

Detectives believe that more than one offender is involved in the shooting and multiple shots were fired.

They believe the offenders were dressed in dark clothing and were riding bikes, potentially electric bikes.

All of the people on the bikes were wearing face masks or face coverings, like a balaclava.

Two people have now been arrested in connection with the shooting.

Last night, a 21-year-old man from Toxteth has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Later a 60-year-old man, also from Toxteth, arrest on suspicion of assisting an offender.

However police say that despite having two people arrested they are not yet satisfied that all the offenders have been caught.

The shooting took place at a bus stop, on Upper Warwick Street, Toxteth, on Tuesday, March 1, at around 5.10pm.

A short time after police were called to the Toxteth shooting, a 21 year old man turned up at hospital with a gunshot injury to his hand, which is not life threatening.

Police said that one of their lines of enquiry , while keeping an open mind, is that these two incidents are connected.
