Miracle puppy survives being hurled from truck at 50mph and finds new family

A miracle dog who survived being lobbed out of a moving truck travelling 50mph has finally found a forever home. Freya the terrier was left to die on the side of the road by her owner in January, but thankfully passers-by spotted the incident and rushed to save her.

The one-year-old puppy was malnourished, dirty and frightened but incredibly lucky to be alive. Later named Freya, the poor pooch was taken to a nearby vet in Yalding, Kent, who reported the incident to the RSPCA.

Inspector Kirsten Ormerod, who launched an investigation into the incident, said: "Witnesses described her being thrown with such force that she landed on the opposite side of the road, and the vehicle didn't stop or even slow down.

"Freya is incredibly lucky to survive after being hurled from the moving vehicle at such a high speed, and vets were incredibly concerned that she may have suffered internal bleeding so performed surgery immediately."

Freya's story was shared nationwide in the hopes of anyone who recognised her coming forward.

Then when she was open for rehoming with the RSPCA, a keen couple jumped at the chance to take her home and show her what true love really was.

Gill and her husband Ray, who live in nearby Maidstone, were heartbroken by Freya's sad tale and instantly welcomed her with open arms.

Gill said: "I lost my Jack Russell terrier in April and we'd been thinking about getting another dog.

"I was so sad to hear about what had happened to Freya and thought we could give her a wonderful home but assumed she'd be snapped up.

"When my daughter sent me her profile on the RSPCA website I fell in love with her straight away."

The 18-month-old pup found her happy ever after at Gill's home and is "always wagging her tail".

"She can be a bit naughty and play bites a lot but we love her just the way she is," Gill adds.

"We have a trainer coming to help us as she is very scared around men and finds it difficult meeting other dogs.

"But she's been through so much that we know it'll take her some time to understand that she's safe now."

Unfortunately, Freya's horrific abandonment is one of thousands of cases as the number of animals being dumped across the nation rises by 24 percent since 2021.

The charity receives around 90,000 calls to its cruelty line each month and four abandonment calls every hour.
