Miracle escape for brave cop after car mowed down by truck in horror Fife road smash

A Fife cop had a miracle escape after his vehicle was mowed down by a vehicle transporter truck.

The horror smash took place on the A92 near Crossgates yesterday at around 1.40pm.

The marked car, understood to be an armed response vehicle, ended up in a ditch at the side of the road .

The police vehicle had been stationary and helping another stricken motorist who had broken down when the accident took place.

Pictures from the scene show the wrecked police car lying on its side in the ditch next to the busy dual carriageway.

One officer was airlifted to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee amid fears he was seriously injured and possibly suffering from crush injuries.

But Police Scotland have now confirmed his injuries appear to be minor.

In a tweet, the police control room said: “The officer has been assessed and is thankfully not believed to have any life-threatening injuries.

“However, he remains in hospital for observations. Thank you for all the supportive messages.”

The road was closed for several hours while accident investigations took place.

A police source said that low-lying sun glare may have had a role to play in the terrifying accident.

Investigators are keen to speak to witnesses and recover any dashcam footage.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 and quote 1746 of February 27.
