Miracle escape after runaway bus crashes into car park in Co Donegal

A suspected runaway bus rolled down a lane and across a footpath before crashing into a car park in Letterkenny, Co Donegal.

No injuries have been reported from the incident which occurred before noon on Friday near the Letterkenny Shopping Centre/Port Road.

It is understood that the coach was parked at the Letterkenny Shopping Centre and was unmanned when it rolled down the link road and careened into the car park behind Tobins Service Station and Killashulan Court.

The bus came to a halt after crashing through a barrier and hitting a car which was parked in the car park.

“Amazingly it looks like nobody was hurt. It was just lucky there was no one on the footpath at the time,” an onlooker said.

Gardaí are currently investigating the collision.

It is expected that it will be some time before the bus can be removed from the scene.

A section of the car park has been closed and the road from Tesco Supermarket to Port Road has been closed to traffic.
