'Miracle' criminals weren't killed after cutting through 11,000-volt cables at Balado former radar station

Raiders 'cheated death' after they broke into the a former radar station and cut through 11,000-volt cables.

The 'golf ball building' in Balado, Kinross, which is an inactive radar station on a former Nato and RAF site, was targeted by brainless criminals who managed to steal nothing while causing "well into four figures" worth of damage on Tuesday morning.

The building was broken into at around 4.30am and electrical cables were cut with the intent to steal them.

However, as is the case with many buildings which are thought to be empty or disused, the cables were still live.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "These cables were carrying 11,000 volts, and it can only be described as miraculous that nobody was killed or seriously injured in carrying out this incredibly dangerous act.

"Their efforts were ultimately unsuccessful as nothing appears to have been stolen, however the damage caused has been valued as well into four figures."

If you have any information that could assist us with the investigation, call 101 or speak with any police officer.
