Miracle as pair missing off Galway coast for 15 hours found alive

Two people reported missing after going paddle boarding off the coast of Co Galway have been found alive.

A major search operation was under way on Thursday morning after a 23-year-old woman and teenage girl, 17, failed to return from the sea on Wednesday night.

It's understood they spent 15 hours in the water.

The RNLI said a local fishermen found the pair clinging to a lobster pot, RTE reports.

The Irish Coast Guard said: "Two Missing Paddle Boarders located and being transferred to the care of the HSE.

"The search is now standing down. Thank you to everyone that assisted in this SAR operation."

A co-ordinated search started from Spiddal Beach at 9.30am on Thursday.

It was then volunteers started a 30 mile line search of the coastline along Galway Bay.

The pair were using paddle boards off Furbo beach when they disappeared.

An RNLI helicopter scanned the coastline last night but there were no signs of the pair.
