Mira Showers taps into innovation with second Queen's Award

Mira Showers has been awarded a second Queen’s Award for one of its innovative electric shower products.

The manufacturer, whose owner Kohler Mira also has a base at the Melton West Business Park in East Yorkshire, received the prestigious accolade for its Mira Sport Max shower.

The electric shower uses state-of-the-art technology to increase water flow by almost a third, without using any more water.

It is the second time Mira Showers has won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise, after its Mira Flight Safe anti-slip shower tray scooped the title in 2017.

Craig Baker, MD at Mira Showers, said: "This award highlights our commitment to innovation and the hard work and level of detail we put into the research and design stages, which allows us to ensure products we bring to market are meeting the ever-changing demands from both consumers and installers.

“As a forward-thinking company, our focus on developing exclusive technology is what has made Mira the biggest contributor to the showering industry in the last 90 years.

"Mira’s Research & Development team is always working collaboratively to look for ways to optimise the showering experience.

“Installers are the voice of the user, and so holding regular meetings with our Installer Clubs throughout the UK gives us valuable insight to shape the design of products and bring new technology to life.”

Mira Showers representatives recently joined other Queen’s Award winners at a recent royal reception at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the accolade.

The company also recently celebrated a production landmark at its facility in East Yorkshire, as the two millionth shower tray rolled off the line.

It was just four years after the Meltonwest factory – opened in 2012 – celebrated its millionth shower tray.

Liz Hazeldene, then managing director at Mira Showers, said at the time: “The journey started in Hull in Gypsyville, before the company became Kohler Mira and moved to Melton in 2012.

“Our commitment now is to get out to schools and colleges around Hull, and spread the word of how fabrics engineering is growing, and the opportunities it can give you.”

Mira is owned by US bathroom manufacturer Kohler Co and its shower products can be found in one in four UK homes.
