Minor League Baseball Announcer Calls an At Bat Like the Masters, and It’s Awesome

1. The single-best thing from the weekend was last night’s Succession episode. The second-best thing from the weekend was West Michigan Whitecaps play-by-play man Dan Hasty calling an at bat as if it was taking place at the Masters.

With the soft Masters music playing in the background, Hasty channeled his inner Jim Nantz and started the at bat during Saturday’s game with a, “Hello, friends.”

Then, in a hushed, calm tone, Hasty went into full play-by-play mode while mixing in all the lines you heard all weekend on CBS from Augusta.

“Right now, looking at a pitch from 60 feet, 6 inches,” Hasty said before a pitch that was called a ball. “No idea how that one stayed out.”

Tremendous from start to finish. The only downside was that Hasty’s bit was way too short. This should’ve gone on for at least a whole inning.

2. After winning the Masters on Sunday, Jon Rahm called out his friend NFL tight end Zach Ertz for jinxing him before the tournament. In a text exchange, Ertz said, “First hole green looks like a walk in the park.” Rahm went on to double-bogey the first hole Thursday and warned Ertz never to “do that again.”

Ertz, however, is standing his ground.

3. The Giants have the best postgame clubhouse in baseball.

4. So bush league.

5. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich used his pregame media session Sunday to make a passionate, nine-minute speech on the need for gun control and the lack of action on gun control from lawmakers.

Less than 24 hours after Popovich's plea, there was a mass shooting in Louisville.

6. This week’s SI Media With Jimmy Traina features a conversation with New York Post sports media reporter Andrew Marchand about the latest sports media news. Topics discussed during the podcast include:
