Minor Injury and Illness Unit at Pitlochry Hospital to go to temporary reduced hours due to staffing issues

A vital rural hospital unit has had its hours reduced.

Pitlochry Minor Injury and Illness Unit will have its hours reduced to 9am until 4.30pm daily as of today (Wednesday, February 5).

The Perth and Kinross Health and Social Care Partnership says this is because of ongoing recruitment challenges and unplanned staff absences within the GP unit.

These reduced hours are expected to be in place for the next four weeks to make sure the inpatient services at the hospital are properly supported.

Gordon Paterson, chief officer at the Perth and Kinross Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “We would like to apologise for any disruption this may cause.

“It is essential that we provide safe staffing levels in order to maintain a quality inpatient service for patients who are clinically unwell.

“Due to staffing difficulties within the GP unit, we have had to make the difficult decision to restrict the opening hours of the minor injury unit for a temporary period in order to safely staff the inpatient area.”
