Minnesota lawmaker murder suspect’s ‘manifesto’ reads like a deranged grocery list of enemies

Minnesota authorities are still conducting a large-scale search for Vance Boelter, the main suspect in the recent shootings that killed State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband and injured State Senator John Hoffman and his wife. Governor Tim Walz (former VP hopeful) has described the incident as a politically motivated killing, stressing how serious the attacks were. The FBI has joined the search and is offering a reward of $50,000 for any information that helps arrest and convict Boelter.

After Boelter ran away, law enforcement searched the vehicle he left behind. Inside, they found an important piece of evidence: a “manifesto.” This document had a disturbing list of names, including many lawmakers and other public officials. Reports say the list included nearly 70 names, specifically targeting abortion providers and people who support abortion rights.

They also found papers with the words “No Kings” written on them, which may have been a reference to planned protests on Saturday. This discovery led to immediate alerts being sent to state officials, who quickly arranged extra security for the people named on the list. Other items found in the vehicle included a Father’s Day card addressed to the suspect and a bag of bullets.

The events happened early Saturday morning when police found a man, later identified as Boelter, at the home of State Representative Melissa Hortman. He was reportedly dressed to look like a police officer, wearing a mask that covered his head and a police-style outfit. An SUV that looked like a police car with emergency lights was also linked to him. When officers approached him, Boelter is said to have immediately started shooting before running away on foot and hiding inside the house.

Police then issued a warning to the public, saying the suspect was armed, dangerous, and might still be pretending to be a law enforcement officer. They urged people to be very careful and not to approach him.

Boelter is described as a 57-year-old white man, 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing around 220 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. When he was last seen, he was reportedly wearing a light-colored cowboy hat and a dark-colored long-sleeve collared shirt or coat and carrying a dark bag. Authorities have warned that he should be considered armed and dangerous. They are urging the public to call 911 immediately if they see him and not to try to approach him.

The victims of this violent attack were well-known figures in Minnesota politics. Melissa Hortman, 55, was a leading Democrat in the state legislature. John Hoffman, 60, also a top Democrat, has been a state senator since 2012.
