Ministers get Covid all-clear ahead of Cabinet meeting after Christmas scare

Ministers have all gotten the Covid all-clear ahead of a special Cabinet Christmas meeting.

The emergency testing was carried out last Wednesday after the sudden news that Minister for Agriculture, Charlie McConalogue had caught the virus.

And as a precaution, the 15 Minister Members of Government and the three Special Junior Ministers who attend the Cabinet as well all got tested.

A source in Government Buildings has confirmed to the Irish Mirror this afternoon that nobody else has tested positive.

This will be a huge relief to the leaders of Government, Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar and Greens chief Eamon Ryan.

It would have seriously hampered their ability to get the job of proper governance done in a time of national emergency with more ministers down with the virus.

Mr McConalogue is said to be feeling well and is believed to not be suffering too much from symptoms of the virus.

However, it is a serious virus and it spreads rapidly so Mr McConologue was instructed to work from his home in Donegal for 14 days after getting infected.

The Donegal man is doing this, but he is not just sitting at home eating Roses as he will jointly launch a €100million Brexit fund for food businesses with Minister for Business, Mr Varadkar this evening.

All other ministers were ordered to immediately restrict their movements after news of Mr McConologue’s infection broke.

Tests were ordered and no further positives have been reported.

Mr McConologue had travelled to Brussels the week before last on Government business and it is understood that this is where he probably picked up the bug.
