Minister raises hopes of France moving back to UK's amber list for travel

France could soon be back on the amber list which would see vaccinated UK holidaymakers free from quarantine upon their return.

Last week there was huge concerns over the number of cases of the Beta variant in France which forced the government to put France on the ‘amber plus’ list.

This latest move means people returning from France have to isolate for 10 days and aren’t able to take advantage of the new rules which state that people returning from amber list countries don’t have to quarantine if they have been double jabbed.

The Beta variant was first discovered in South Africa.

Environment Secretary, George Eustice, told LBC: “There was a reason at the time that the advice was we should put France on that amber (plus) list, it was concern about the Beta variant and the fact that the vaccine might be slightly less effective against that.

“But as those rates come down obviously the evidence will change and it can be reviewed and we will want to be putting countries like France back onto the amber list in the normal way.”
