Minister KT Rama Rao urges UAE ambassador to release five Telangana NRIs

HYDERABAD: Telangana NRIs and municipal minister KT Rama Rao urged the United Arab Emirates (UAE) ambassador Abdul Nasser Al Shaali to release five people belonging to Telangana, who are serving imprisonment in connection with a murder case of Nepali citizen Dil Prasad Roy in Dubai for the past few years.

The minister discussed the case issue with the ambassador when the latter met him at Pragati Bhavan on Monday. He said the five-people belonging to Rajanna Sircilla district Nampally Venkat, Shivaratri Mallesh, Shivaratri Ravi, Shivaratri Hanmanthu and Dandugula Laxman were convicted and serving imprisonment in Dubai.

KTR said as per Sharia Law, if the family of the deceased had agreed to accept a compensation of Rs 15 lakh and the family members accept the blood money, the deceased can be released. The minister said in 2013 itself, he had personally visited Nepal and met the family members of the deceased and handed over the money and a letter of consent to pardon to the accused was issued and submitted.

KTR requested the ambassador to enquire into facts of the case, its status and take it to the notice of the PM of the UAE to approve the mercy petition of the five Indian labourers for their release from Aweer Jail, Dubai and also to get them repatriated at the earliest from Dubai to India.

During the meeting, Abdul Nasser Al Shaali praised the development of Telangana. He said that the infrastructure built in Hyderabad to compete with international cities would change the face of Hyderabad.

The start-up ecosystem in Hyderabad, strengths of the IT and its allied sectors in the city have been discussed during the meeting. KTR presented the investment opportunities, Telangana government’s policies to the UAE ambassador.

He said that venture capitalists from America, France have joined hands with the start-up ecosystem in Hyderabad and requested an ambassador to introduce T-Hub to the venture capitalists in the UAE. The UAE ambassador responded positively and assured that he would try to establish a connection between the enthusiastic venture capitalists from his country and T-Hub.
