Minister for Justice Helen McEntee has revealed she started doing workouts with her baby prior to resuming her role following maternity leave.
Minister McEntee became the first Cabinet Minister to give birth while in office, following the arrival of her son Michael Shane Hickey - whose name was a tribute to her late father, former Fine Gael minister Shane McEntee.
Her first child, whom she welcomed with husband Paul Hickey, was born less than 48 hours after she started her six-month maternity leave back in April. Michael Shane came two weeks before his original due date.
At the time, McEntee joked: “He was determined not to give his mammy any time off, arriving over two weeks early, but we're home and he's doing great so we couldn't ask for more.”
However, her most recent story on the photo-sharing platform offers an adorable insight into her life as a mother.
Sharing a photo of her working out, she wrote, “Prior to coming back to work I joined @KW_Fitness__ & some fantastic mammies in @CrossFitMeath for Barbells & Babies.
“Sometimes you just need that extra bit of support & motivation. Couldn’t recommend Karolina enough!”
In the photo, Minister McEntee can be seen holding a barbell and smiling down at little Michael Shane, who is watching on in a green bouncer.
She also shared photos of him sitting with another baby in the class with the caption, “Our little cheerleaders.”
McEntee resumed her role as Justice Minister at the start of this month, with Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys filling in for her while she was away.
