The Lebanese government revealed on Monday that Minister of Social Affairs and Tourism, Ramzi al-Musharafieh, had paid a visit to Damascus last week.

This marks the first visit to the Syrian capital from a minister in Prime Minister Hassan Diab’s government.

Musharafieh met with Syrian Minister of Local Administration and Environment Hussein Makhlouf, Social Affairs and Labor Minister Rima al-Qaderi and Tourism Minister Mohammed Rami Martini, said a statement from his office.

Discussions focused on Syrian refugees and their safe return to their home in cooperation between the Lebanese and Syrian governments and coordination with concerned international agencies, it added.

Makhlouf and Qaderi underlined the directives of the Syrian leaderships in providing the necessary means to ensure that Syrians return to their homes.

With Martini, Musharafieh discussed tourism and ways to boost the sector so that it will positively impact Lebanon and Syria.
