Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly gives update on latest Covid vaccine figures

Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has given an update on the Irish vaccine rollout so far - and the figures are looking promising.

Back on December 29 2020, Dublin woman Annie Lynch became the person to receive a Covid vaccine in the State.

Now, 125 days later, almost 2.9million vaccine doses have been administered across Ireland and nearly 900,000 of us are fully vaccinated.

Mr Donnelly tweeted this afternoon that two million first dose jabs have been given.

Over half of the Irish adult population have had a first dose vaccine.

Mr Donnelly said that “high uptake in age groups for vaccines'' has continued. He also reminded people that registration is open for anyone aged 43 today and that anyone up to 69 years old can still register for a jab.

The register portal opened up for those aged 44 to register on Wednesday. Today, those aged 43 are invited to register, tomorrow, those aged 42 and so on until everyone over 40 has had a chance to apply for a vaccine.

Previously, Minister Donnelly had said he was “delighted to share” the news that the vaccine portal was opening up again, and with over a million of us waiting to get a chance to put our names forward for a vaccine, most of Ireland shared his delight.
