Minister for Health Simon Harris brilliantly responds to 'cancel lent' request from 10-year-olds

Minister for Health Simon Harris has told a pair of 10-year-olds he doesn't have the power to cancel lent.

In a lighter distraction from the coronavirus crisis, the Fine Gael Minister was passed on a message from two children on Twitter.

Lifeline Ambulance owner David Hall tweeted the Minister: "Hi Simon, I know you are busy but my two ten-year-olds asked me to ask you can you cancel lent please. Thanks,"

And the Minister made sure to respond to the request although unfortunately didn't have the power to cancel lent.

Minister Harris said: "Not sure even the new emergency legislation allows me to do that. A matter for a higher power.

"Though I'm sure a god would understand the need for(public health appropriate!) treats to get through this challenging time for all."

The government representative was praised for his humour and compassion which he said will be vital in the coming months.

Harris added: "We will need both in the days ahead - and resilience. We face tough times but this is a great country and, working together, we will prevail."
