Minister for Health expects Ireland to have a 'million vaccine doses a month' by May

The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has said that he expects Ireland to have a 'million vaccine doses a month' by May.

As of February 18th, 326,475 doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been administered in Ireland: 205,955 people have received their first dose 120,520 people have received their second dose

However, that is set to see a big increase in the next few weeks, especially if the Johnson and Johnson vaccine gets approved.

Earlier this evening, the Minister for Health has promised a big boost.

''We expect to see a big increase in vaccine supply from April onwards - a million vaccine doses a month. We are building up capacity to vaccinate 250,000 a week. The Covid-19 pandemic is enormously challenging but the vaccines are providing us all with much-needed hope.'' Mr Donnelly tweeted tonight.

Earlier, the Health Protection Surveillance Centre announced that there had been one additional death related to Covid-19.

There has been a total of 4,136 Covid-19 related deaths in Ireland.

An additional 679 cases were notified in the last 24 hours – with a total of 215,057 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland.

Of the cases notified today:

  • 335 are men / 342 are women
  • 71% are under 45 years of age
  • The median age is 32 years old
  • 230 in Dublin, 59 in Limerick, 48 in Galway, 47 in Kildare, 29 in Tipperary and the remaining 266 cases are spread across 19 other counties
