Transport Minister Eamon Ryan has confirmed that the two metre social distancing rule will be relaxed.
Speaking on his way into Cabinet, he told the Irish Mirror: “I think all the rules are going to be relaxed.
“As the regulations come to an end, most of them in October, they will be removed.
"It was always legislation done to be short-term so yes we’re going towards removing all restrictions but replacing it with personal responsibility.
“In wearing our masks, keeping our distance and all of the basic public health measures that worked over the last two years.
“But the actual legal restrictions and regulations behind it, we’ll start to pull back.”
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly has said the two metre rule will be eased depending on the requirement of individual sectors, whether it is sports or entertainment.

He added: “Obviously the sectors most affected have been very loud.”
Speaking on his way into Cabinet, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly said “we have a realistic plan” for reopening.
Although he said we still have the highest Covid-19 rates right now in the EU and “really what we have got to do is find a way to reopen that’s sustainable, realistic and safe.”
Government is planning to lift all remaining restrictions on October 22.
Minister Donnelly also said he is working with departments about the sunset clause for mandatory hotel quarantine which is due to lapse on October 31.
Minister Ryan also indicated that dancing will also be permitted at weddings soon.
Music at weddings is allowed from next Monday under proposals gone to Cabinet.
