The minister in charge of the Tokyo Games Seiko Hashimoto declined to comment on Tuesday as to whether the cyber-attacks targeting the Olympics and Paralympics caused any damage to data.
"I can't comment because of the nature of the matter," she said at a press conference after a Cabinet meeting.
However, Hashimoto said the government is aware of the British government's announcement regarding the cyber-attacks.
Hashimoto pointed out that cyber-attacks have increased since the London Games, with 600 million attacks during the Pyeongchang Winter Games.
"We will continue to share information with other countries as we prepare to host the Games," she said. "I would like relevant organizations to work together to implement cybersecurity measures."
Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato also said at a press conference, "[Implementing] cybersecurity measures are vital as [the Olympics and Paralympics] are international events that will draw the attention of the world."
The organizing committee of the Games commented, "We cannot disclose the details regarding our cybersecurity, but we will continue to work closely with concerned organizations."
No serious issues have been identified so far, according to committee officials, but they are continuing to search for evidence of an attack.
