Minister Catherine Martin demands meeting with RTE over undeclared payments to Ryan Tubridy

Minister for Arts Catherine Martin is set to meet RTE to discuss undeclared payments the broadcaster made to Ryan Tubridy.

RTE confirmed earlier today that the former Late Late Show host received €345,000 more than declared publicly over the course of several years. The issues with the presenter's pay first came to light in March.

Ms Martin is set to meet with RTE's Chairperson to discuss the issue on Monday. She described the matter as "unacceptable" in a statement.

The Minister said: "I was advised in March 2023 that an issue had come to light in the course of the audit of the RTÉ 2022 accounts, and that a fact finding review had been commissioned by the Audit and Risk Committee of the RTÉ Board. I am extremely concerned at the details which were contained in RTÉ’s statement today, on foot of that review being completed."

Ms Martin added that the public deserved "transparency and accountability" from the state broadcaster. She added that the Board should put in place structures to avoid similar mistakes going forward.

Tubridy announced he was stepping down as Late Late Show host on March 16. RTE conducted investigations into its other top earners after news of Tubridy's overpayments emerged but found no other issues or inaccuracies.
