Mining success is the ambition for Kello Rovers boss Greg Gallagher

Greg Gallagher is determined to get it right on the pitch at Kello Rovers – as the club attempts to make huge strides off it.

The Miners, who have a rich history of Ayrshire football despite being based in the Dumfriesshire village of Kirkconnel, appointed Gallagher to replace Scott Clelland as manager in the summer.

It's a case of so far, so good with Kello kicking off their West of Scotland League Third Division campaign with back-to-back victories ahead of tomorrow's trip to Saltcoats Victoria.

And Kilmarnock native Gallagher is eyeing further success as he bids to repay the faith shown in him by chairman Mark Keggans and the Kello hierarchy.

"It's a good club and I can't fault Mark and the committee for everything that they do off the park," Gallagher told Ayrshire Football News.

"They give everything 100 per cent, constantly, whether that be down at the ground doing work or fundraising. The boys are kitted and we're looking to see how we can develop the club going forward.

"Everything they do makes it a whole lot easier for us on the football side so a lot of credit has to go to them.

"I'm really enjoying it so far. I was a bit wary at first with the travelling but it's not as far as I thought it was going to be! A few of us are from Kilmarnock so we just car share."

Kello began the season with a 3-1 win at Bellshill Athletic then beat 10-man Lugar Boswell Thistle 1-0 in their home opener on Wednesday night.

The Super K go to Campbell Park tomorrow sitting third in the early table.

Gallagher reflected: "We won every game in pre-season but didn't take that form into the first half [against Bellshill]. Probably the worst we've played since I came.

"We had a good chat at half-time, sorted a few things out, told them how to adapt to the narrow pitch and in the second half the boys took it on board and I thought we created lots of chances.

"I was delighted with the result [against Lugar], especially with the squad numbers we had available.

"Second half we didn't do a lot of the basics correctly but the boys showed great character and resilience until the end with Mark Armour showing great composure to finish."
