Mining dump truck driver dies after falling into quarry at Red Hill, near Perth

The truck appeared to have rolled off a steep embankment within the quarry.

A man in his 40s has died following a truck accident at a quarry in Red Hill, north east of Perth.

Video footage shows a large mining truck lying on its side, which appears to have rolled off a steep embankment, falling to a lower level in the mine.

The quarry is operated by Hanson Construction Materials.

Emergency services attended the scene, off Toodyay Road, this morning but the driver could not be saved.

Inspectors from the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety were on site investigating.

In a statement, a spokeswoman for Hanson said the dump truck was travelling along the face of the quarry early this morning when it tipped into the pit.

She said it was the only vehicle involved and emergency services were contacted immediately.

"Today's accident was tragic and our thoughts go out to the driver's family, as well as his friends and colleagues, at this difficult time," she said.

"Hanson is fully cooperating with police and is conducting an investigation in conjunction with authorities to understand how the incident occurred."

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
