NEW DELHI: Lieutenant governor VK Saxena on Thursday directed the traffic police to ensure the least amount of human interface in enforcement of traffic rules and issuing of challans to violators.
Reviewing the traffic management system in the capital, the LG also asked Delhi Police to deploy personnel at various traffic points public by putting the details online.
The meeting was attended by police commissioner Rakesh Asthana and other senior officers of Delhi Police.
Appreciating the efforts being put in by the police in effectively managing the situation with the help of technology and automation, Saxena underlined the importance of seamless traffic flow in the city with least manual interventions for enforcement and challans.
"This will not only ensure that the motorists are not inconvenienced and prevent corruption, but will also mitigate the problem of traffic pile-up at sites where they are stopped indiscriminately for inspection and issuing challans," the Raj Niwas said in a statement.
The Raj Niwas officials said that the LG has also directed to install timer displays at all traffic signals and also increase the number of electronic signage indicating speed across the city. "He also stressed on strict enforcement of lane discipline by heavy motor vehicles, especially on the highways where trucks are allowed during late nights and early mornings," said an official.
Officials privy to the discussion in the meeting said the LG stressed that the traffic police should focus more on traffic regulation rather than prosecution and directed to bring transparency in the deployment of personnel at traffic points.
The LG also asked the police to roll out Intelligent Traffic Management before the G-20 Summit scheduled in the capital next year.
