Schools in Queanbeyan will remain open with skeleton staff on Tuesday as teachers across NSW strike over pay and conditions.
The teachers union has accused the government of failing to address unsustainable workloads, uncompetitive salaries and staff shortages.
Queanbeyan secondary teacher Kelly Bowman said she felt teachers were left with no other choice but to strike.
"The only way to really change that situation is to pay teachers what they are worth," she told ABC Canberra radio on Tuesday morning.
Ms Bowman said the teachers union was asking for a pay increase of up to 7.5 per cent a year.
All parents were sent a message on Friday by the NSW Department of Education.
Ms Bowman urged parents to contact their child's school if they had any questions.
On Facebook, Queanbeyan Public School principal Wendy Attwood said there would be minimal supervision on Tuesday as a result of industrial action and strike.
She said there would be variations to routine:
- Only two gates will be operational on Thorpe Avenue and Isabella Street. Hirst Avenue Gates and the Supported Learning gates will remain locked. All students are asked to enter and exit via these gates.
- The school day will commence as normal, it will begin at 8.55am with supervision starting at 8.25am. The day will end at 2.55pm.
- Your child will more than likely not have their regular teacher.
- Cohorting of students may not be possible due to low numbers of supervising staff.
Queanbeyan High School announced on Facebook that the school would provide minimal supervision of students on Tuesday.
