Mini heatwave in UK continues as 20C predicted by Met Office for weekend

Highs of 20C are forecast this weekend for Liverpool, as a mini-heatwave continues in the UK.

Temperature records for the year were smashed on Wednesday, with the mercury climbing to almost 30C in some places.

In Liverpool, people headed towards the Pier Head, Liverpool ONE and Crosby beach - among other places - to take full advantage of the good weather.

The city was warmer than most holiday hotspots across Europe including Ibiza, Alicante and Zante.

On Wednesday, temperatures slightly dropped, as cloud covered the sky.

But the balmy weather will soon be back as Saturday is forecast for 20C heat.

By 12pm on Saturday, we should see the sun breaking through at 18C.

This will rise at 2pm to 20C before remaining at 18C for most of the afternoon and evening.

Sunday will be a milder day, with temperatures peaking at 17C at 4pm.

The Met Office said: "[Saturday is] fine and dry day with plenty of sunny spells. The odd light shower is possible in the east later. Feeling warm by day, though chilly in places overnight.

"Dry on Sunday with patchy fair-weather cloud and sunny intervals. A mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers on Monday and Tuesday. Staying on the warm side."
