MINI has updated the John Cooper Works performance version of its family-sized Countryman model, enhancing the performance, design, on-board kit and technology.
It features the most powerful engine ever used in a production MINI – a four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbo petrol, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive set-up, that develops 306hp.
That’s good enough to propel it to 62mph in just 5.1 seconds, and the powertrain coupled with JCW racing suspension know-how guarantee “superior performance at all times”, says the iconic brand.
A new chrome-framed black radiator grille with hexagonal contours is designed to emphasise the car’s power – as are tailpipes enlarged to 95mm in diameter.
The standard LED lights have also been given a new design and there’s gloss-black detailing for the light surrounds, door handles and model lettering. Two new exterior metallic paint colours are also now available – White Silver and Sage Green.
The major change inside is a five-inch digital dash behind the steering wheel, brought over from the MINI Electric. The standard audio system now offers streaming via Bluetooth and a hands-free telephone system with USB connection.
An on-board SIM card means the newcomer is always online, allowing for emergency calling in the event of an accident and other remote services. The new MINI Countryman John Cooper Works is priced from £36,000 RRP and is available to order now, with first customer deliveries expected in November.
