Mini dresses: from puff sleeved to paisley, this summer max out on the mini

For a minute there, it felt like a midi length might remain the dress hemline of choice for all eternity.

So ubiquitous, long-lasting (and continuing) has the midi’s popularity been, many of us had totally forgotten the joys of a saucier hemline, and in the process very much neglected to pop a pin and flash a knee.

This summer, though, the mini dress makes a triumphant and, in my opinion, long overdue return.

The shops (online, obvs) have some goodies on offer – from the puff sleeved beauties from Ganni and Zimmermann, to the long-sleeved ruched iterations at Les Reveries and River Island, this summer's minis might be small but boy are they mighty on impact

"A great mini dress is a must have item in everyone’s summer wardrobe, so much so that at, NET-A-PORTER, we bought over 300 styles for Spring/Summer 2020, including the three little black dresses that opened this season’s Versace show,” Elizabeth von der Goltz, Net-a-Porter’s Global Buying Director tells the Standard.

It would appear we have already begun our lockdown hunt for the perfect leg-baring beauty. Fashion search platform Lyst has noticed an increased search for mini dresses, and in particular those with puff and long sleeves, with searches for each having increased 43 per cent and 22 per cent respectively over the last month. According to Lyst, the mini dresses we are most hankering after are from Zimmermann, ASOS and Ganni.

Whether you’re into Topshop’s more formal faux leather shirtdress or some of the floatier heatwave-ready boho options on offer from the likes of Free People, it’s time to whip out the fake tan and get ready to flash your pins. The mini is back and it’s cooler than ever.
