'Mini Beast from the East' could bring 5 days of snow and freezing temperatures to Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire is due to be hit with freezing overnight temperatures this weekend as a 'mini Beast from the East' is predicted to bring snow across the country.

Three days of yellow weather warnings for snow and ice are currently in place for the county, in place from Saturday, February 6, until Monday, February 8.

Met Office forecasters predict overnight temperatures could fall as low as 0C (32F) by Sunday evening, February 7, but it will feel like -6C (21F) at some points.

On the outlook for the East Midlands over the weekend, a Met Office spokesperson said: "Cloudy Saturday with patchy rain. Rain turning wintry overnight into Sunday as it becomes increasingly cold and breezy. Breezy Monday with sunny spells and snow showers, mainly in the north."

According to the forecast, snow could start falling in Notts from 9pm on Saturday and is forecast to fall throughout early Sunday morning.

It could return by 9pm on Sunday evening with sporadic snow showers currently forecast for Monday.

While there are no weather warnings yet for the rest of the week, early predictions suggest more snow could fall in Nottinghamshire on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the Met Office, as temperatures could fall to below freezing

The Mirror is also reporting we could be in for the 'snowiest, coldest week' of the winter next week as freezing easterly winds will lash the UK, leading some people to refer to it as the 'mini Beast from the East'.
