‘Mine does the same thing at Ross, Burlington’: Louisiana woman buys Coach bag. Now she’s setting off alarms at stores like Walmart as if she’s stealing

Louisianan TikToker Ro (@ro_roe07) has gone viral after sharing with viewers how her new Coach bag has gotten her into some sticky situations.

As she pushed a trolley in Walmart, she said, “OK, y’all, so every time I go into the store–I bought this Coach purse.”

Ro then told viewers to “watch this.” As she tried to walk through the store’s entrance, an alarm went off.

“[They] had them people thinking they were stealing y’all,” she added. “It was the purse the whole time. I don’t know why it doesn’t. But it beeps the whole time. $300. Period. $300.”

Accompanying the video was on-screen text reading, “POV: My Coach purse sets the alarm [off] all the time like I’m stealing.”

The video has amassed 42,700 views.

Ro didn’t immediately respond to The Mary Sue’s request for comment via TikTok comment.

Commenters could relate

In the comments, fellow designer purse owners shared their own similar experiences.

“I had a Coach purse do this,” one wrote. “People at the store said most Coach purses do.”

A second added, “I had a purse that [did] this, I looked and looked [and] nothing was in it. Just gave up using it while shopping.”

“Mine does the same thing at Ross, Burlington and Marshalls…” a third shared.

“Okay so I’m not tripping!” a fourth commented. “One of my Coach purses always sets the alarm when I go through a metal detector.”

Several commenters also claimed that there might be a way to stop the alarm from blaring: by finding the sensor barcode buried deep in the depths of the product’s pocket.

Indeed, in a follow-up video, Ro started by rifling through her purse, to no avail. But she was in for a surprise when she checked the back pocket.

“Wait a minute! Is this the little thing that is making this purse go off?” she asked, holding a thin black plastic strip. “This has to be what y’all were talking about because I don’t even know what that is. But if it’s making the sensor go off, then we’re gonna go ahead and get that removed.”

Do Coach bags really have security tags?

While Coach hasn’t explicitly confirmed that its products have security tags, multiple Redditors noted that their bags also set off alarms in-store.

In response to one Reddit post, a user advised, “This happened to me. I checked everywhere and found nothing. Sensors kept going off. Then I really dug deep in the pockets and found it. Really dig deep, in all crevises, and there will be a little sensor.”

Replying to another, a second Redditor revealed, “This happened to me too. An associate at one of the stores it the alarm off going into took pity and deactivated it for me. I’m still not sure where it was, they just ran the whole bag over the thing and I never had the problem again.”

Then, in a third Reddit post, OP showed users the security tag itself in an image. The tag looks identical to the one in Ro’s TikTok.
