'Mindless' vandals trash Lanarkshire community garden with paint

Mindless vandals have trashed a Lanarkshire community garden with paint.

Volunteers at the sensory garden in Cambuslang were left disgusted by the weekend break-in, which has seen part of the garden and it's seating areas covered with paint that had been kept in storage there

It's the first major vandalism on the Rosebank Tower premises since the garden opened six years ago.

Hilda Allison, one of the women who set up the garden, called the act "just so mindless".

She told Lanarkshire Live : "It looks like they've broken in, but there's nothing of value here to steal.

"So instead they've taken the paint we had stored in the hut and thrown it around everywhere.

Volunteers have been left dismayed at the damage (Rutherglen Reformer)

"It's damage limitation for us now I'm afraid as it's such a mess.

"They've broken a window at the hut too and it's all over the green house. It's disheartening and some of it will be there forever, we won't get it off the surface.

"It's the first time in six years we've had something like this happen.

"Whoever did it hasn't gained anything from it, they've just caused damage.

"We got the call on Monday morning about it, although we don't know exactly when it happened."

Police have been contacted over the incident.

The garden is run by volunteers at the Central Cambuslang Tenants and Residents Association, who turned disused land into a community space, with a mini-allotment and an eating area.
