Mindless thugs who defaced striking mural of Greta Thunberg in central Dublin are 'threatened by women'

The mindless thugs who vandalised a mural of Greta Thunberg in Dublin just a day after it was completed are threatened by independent young women, a local politician claims.

Artist Emma Blake painted the striking image of the 18-year-old environmental activist onto the side of a building on Chancery Street in the north inner city.

The mural is captioned with the brave young Swede's emphatic words, “The world is waking up and change is coming”.

However, over the past 24 hours, yobs defaced the brilliant street art, writing a shameful, misogynistic slur alongside a pathetic reference to George Soros - suggesting the vandalism was the work of mindless, far-right conspiracy quacks.

Dublin City councillor Ciarán Cuffe believes that those behind the shameful graffiti are threatened by the female climate activist.

The Green Party MEP told Dublin Live: “There are some people who are afraid when young women speak out, and feel threatened.

"I hope that this draws attention to the challenges that women and girls face when they speak out.

“I went down to visit the mural this morning and I was really saddened to see the sexist graffiti that has been put on the mural.

“Greta Thunberg is such an extraordinary young woman, and for someone to disfigure the mural with sexist and paranoid graffiti is just inexcusable.

“I’m hoping the mural can be repainted and I’ve reached out to the artist offering to help if I can.”

Ms Blake said she hoped it helped to refocus attention on the fight against climate change after finishing the mural on Monday evening.

She said earlier today that she wished she had painted the piece higher up from the ground so that it was out of reach of vandals.

RTE News ran a wonderful feature the mural on Monday which you can check out here.
